The relationship owner is the team member assigned as the owner of a contact. Who becomes the relationship owner depends on how the contact enters your account.
Here’s how ownership works for each path — and how you can adjust the assignment logic.
At a glance
How the contact was added | Who becomes the relationship owner |
Created manually via Contacts › Add Contact | The user who created the contact |
Invited to, or added directly to, a campaign | The Campaign Owner, by default |
Added to a group from Creator Discovery, Mentions, Customers, Contacts, or the contact's profile | The user who added them |
Added to a group via the Chrome extension | The user who added them |
Existing owners are never overwritten. All of the rules above only assign an owner when the contact doesn't already have one. If a creator already exists in your contact hub with a relationship owner, adding them to a new group or campaign does not override their existing owner.
Campaign Owners vs. Relationship Owners
Each campaign has one team member assigned as the Campaign Owner. By default, that team member becomes the Relationship Owner for contacts who are invited to or added directly to the campaign.
For campaigns using the new Campaigns experience, you can change how the relationship owner is assigned.
Go to a campaign and click Settings › Additional Settings › Campaign Owner and use the Auto-assign as contact owner setting.
ON: Campaign Owner becomes the relationship owner
When a contact is invited to or added directly to a campaign, the Campaign Owner is automatically assigned as the relationship owner. This is the default behavior.
OFF: The person who added them becomes the relationship owner
When a contact is invited to or added directly to a campaign, the teammate who invited or added them is assigned as the relationship owner instead of the Campaign Owner.
To automatically assign ownership to the person who adds the contact, turn off the Auto-assign as contact owner setting.
Note: If you don't see this setting, you either haven't enabled the new Campaigns experience or you're using a legacy project. To enable the new Campaigns experience, go to Settings › Workspace Settings › Beta Features and turn Campaigns on.
