What is Deduplication?

Deduplication helps ensure accurate commission payouts and reporting by preventing the same order from being counted more than once. When both a promo code and an affiliate link are used for the same purchase, deduplication identifies and rejects the duplicate event, ensuring only one conversion is recorded.

For example, if a member shares both a promo code and a tracking link, a customer might click the link and use the promo code at checkout. Without deduplication, this could result in two separate conversions being counted. Deduplication prevents this by recognizing that both events are tied to the same Order ID, rejecting the duplicate, and ensuring only one conversion is attributed.

This process helps maintain reporting accuracy and prevents duplicate commission payouts.

How does Deduplication work?

When an order is placed using both a member’s link and promo code, the sale is recorded as a promo code conversion. The link conversion is identified as a duplicate, and its associated sale amount and commission are nullified.

If a customer clicks on a member’s link but does not use their promo code, the sale is recorded as a link conversion instead.

How It Works

  1. When a conversion occurs, we compare the Order ID received by Shopify for the promo code conversion with the Order ID sent by your server or the user’s browser for the link conversion (depending on your conversion tracking method).

  2. If the same Order ID is detected for both conversions:

    • The promo code conversion is accepted.

    • The link conversion is rejected as a duplicate.

How does this affect reporting?

In your Offer Conversion Report and Member Conversions Summary, duplicate conversions will be marked with a status of “Duplicate.”

You can hover over the status to view details, such as the promo code used alongside the link. This provides transparency into why the link conversion was flagged as a duplicate.

Here’s how a duplicate conversion appears in the Offer Conversion Report:

Frequently asked questions

Can I accept a conversion that was automatically rejected as a duplicate?

Currently, it’s not possible to manually change the status of a duplicate conversion that has been rejected. However, if you need to accept a duplicate that was automatically reject, you can reach out to our Support team via chat or email us at [email protected] for assistance.

What happens if a customer uses a member's link but applies a different member's promo code at checkout?

The conversion will be attributed to the member whose promo code was used.

What happens if Aspire does not receive an Order ID for the link conversion?

If we do not receive an Order ID for the link conversion, we cannot deduplicate the order. To ensure proper deduplication, we recommend setting up conversion tracking to pass the Order ID using the adv_unique1 parameter for each conversion.

What if we only want to provide creators with a link and code, but only offer commission for link-based conversions?

You can apply commission to the Link Offer only, but the creator will only earn commission if a customer clicks their link and does not use their code at checkout.

Our recommendations:

  1. Enable Discount Links within a Promo Code Offer.

    • Instruct creators to share only their discount link, not just the promo code.

    • For example, they can add their link to Instagram Stories or their link-in-bio, but they should avoid sharing the promo code in post captions or blog posts.

    • The conversion will still be tracked under the Promo Code Offer, but commission will only be paid if the customer clicked the creator’s link before purchasing.

  2. Enable SecureCodes within a Promo Code Offer.

    • With SecureCodes, customers must click the creator’s link before redeeming a single-use promo code.

    • This ensures that the creator earns a commission only if the customer clicks their link first before making a purchase.
