We now support the ability to create promo codes for subscription products that are either directly managed in Shopify or using a 3rd party tool such as Recharge.

Please note, this integration only works if you are using Shopify Subscriptions and utilizing Shopify for orders and checkout.

How it Works

When creating a Promo Code offer, you can now specify a Purchase Type and select from One-time SKUs, Subscriptions, or Both.

If you don't see this option, please follow the directions in this article to upgrade your existing offers. Then, edit the offer and select Subscription or Both to update your existing promo codes to apply to subscription orders.

When you select either Subscriptions or Both, you will see additional settings for subscription products:

  1. Limit Discount to First Payment: This option limits the discount to be applied to the first subscription purchase only. Discounts will not be applied to any subsequent purchases. For example, if a subscription was for a 12-month subscription with monthly deliverables and billings - the discount will only be applied to the first month's billing and not the following. This is the default option.

  2. Limit discount to Multiple recurring payments: This option allows you to put a limit on the number of billings you want to offer discounts for. This is specifically useful for subscriptions that auto-renew. For example, if a customer can sign up for a monthly delivery with auto-renewal, you can say that the discounts are only applicable for the first 6 out of 12 months.

  3. Discount applies to all recurring payments: This option enables you to provide discounts for the lifetime of the subscription. Usually, this option is best for brands that have built-in limits on their subscription timelines.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why am I unable to select "Subscription" or "Both" as a Purchase Type?

You must first enable subscriptions on your Shopify store in order to utilize these features within Aspire. If subscriptions are not enabled on your Shopify store, the options for Subscription and Both will be disabled. For more information on setting up subscriptions in Shopify, please see this help article from Shopify.

Are there any restrictions when using Recharge?

This integration will only work if you are using Shopify's Checkout Integration with Recharge. We do not support Recharge checkout.

Please see this help article from Recharge for additional considerations.

Can we edit the subscription settings after the offer is live?

You may edit the Purchase Type and Additional Settings after the offer has been created and members have been added to it. However, please keep the following considerations in mind:

  1. Any changes to the purchase type will only apply to new purchases.

  2. Any changes to the additional settings will only apply to new promo code redemptions.

  3. Changing the number of payments or switching an offer from lifetime to one-time will only apply to new purchases.
