A tiered commission structure allows you to reward creators with higher commission rates as they drive more results. By setting up performance-based milestones—based on either total sales or total conversions—your members can be leveled up to a better tier as their performance increases.

This not only ensures that top-performing creators are fairly compensated, but also motivates your entire affiliate community to stay active and aim for the next tier, driving more consistent and scalable growth for your brand.

For example, you might set your first tier to offer a 10% commission rate, and a second tier to offer 15% once a creator drives $100 in sales through their affiliate link or discount code. You can also set up tiers based on conversion volume. For instance, your base tier might offer a 15% commission rate, with a second tier at 20% once a creator reaches 50 conversions, and a third tier at 25% for 250+ conversions.

With just a few clicks, you can configure commission tiers and let our system handle the rest—no manual tracking or adjustments required.

How It Works

Commissions are applied to conversions based on the total sales amount or number of conversions a creator has generated, depending on how you've set up your automated tiers. Creators must meet the threshold for the next tier before it takes effect. Once a creator crosses a tier threshold, the new commission rate will apply to future conversions only, not retroactively.

Examples:

Sales-Based Tiers

Say you’ve set up the following sales-based commission tiers:

In the example above, creators earn commission based on total sales as follows:

  • Tier 1 (10% CPS): $0–$499

  • Tier 2 (15% CPS): $500–$999

  • Tier 3 (20% CPS): $1,000+

Suppose a creator has generated $450 in total sales – that means they’re currently in Tier 1 earning 10% commission per sale. If their next conversion generates $100 in sales, bringing their total to $550, they’ll still earn 10% on that conversion, because the new tier is applied only after the sale is processed and their new total is greater than $500.

They will earn 15% commission (Tier 2) on subsequent conversions until they reach $1,000 in total sales, at which point they’ll move into Tier 3.

Conversion-Based Tiers

Say you’ve set up the following conversion-based commission tiers:

In the example above, creators earn commission based on total conversions as follows:

  • Bronze (10% CPS): 0–24 conversions

  • Silver (15% CPS): 25–49 conversions

  • Gold (20% CPS): 50+ conversions

If a creator has generated 24 conversions, they’ll be in the Bronze tier and earning 10% commission per sale. On their 25th conversion, they move into the Silver tier and will earn 15% commission on that conversion and all future ones, until they reach 50 conversions and unlock the Gold tier (20% commission).

Setting Up Automated Tiers

In order to use Automated Tiers, you must first configure the payouts you want to automate within your offer settings. For more details on how to create payouts, see this help article.

Then, follow these steps to set up your tiers:

  1. In the Payouts section of your offer settings, review or create the commission rates you plan to use for your tiers.

  2. Click “Automate Payouts”.

  3. Select how you want the tiers to be calculated:

    1. Total Sales Amount: based on revenue generated

    2. Number of Conversions: based on total conversions tracked

  4. Choose how often tiers should reset. This setting determines how frequently members start fresh in their progress toward tier goals. You can reset tiers on a monthly, quarterly, or yearly basis to give members new goals to work toward regularly. This also prevents higher commission rates from carrying over indefinitely.

If you prefer not to reset tiers at all, select Total to track performance from the automation start date or the beginning of the lookback window.

ℹ️ Note: Resetting tiers does not erase a creator’s performance data. It simply moves them back to the base tier at the start of each new cycle (e.g., monthly or quarterly).

  5. Turn the toggle ON to activate automated tiers for the offer.

  6. Click Add Tier, then select the payout that applies to the base tier (the starting commission rate for creators).

  7. To add additional tiers:

    1. Click “Add Tier"

      1. Enter the threshold value (e.g., dollar amount in sales or number of conversions)

      2. Select the payout that applies to that tier

ℹ️ Note: Each tier must have a higher threshold than the one before it. The number of tiers you can add is limited to the number of payouts you've created for the offer.

  8. If you selected ‘Total’ as the timeframe, you’ll see an option to set the Lookback Window date. This date determines how far back we should look at each member’s sales or conversion history to evaluate their current tier placement.

Frequently Asked Questions

What tier will creators start in if they generated sales before automated commission tiers were enabled?

This depends on the setting you selected when setting up Automated Tiers:

✅ If your tiers are based on Total sales or conversions:

  • You can set a Lookback Window – a specific date from which we’ll begin evaluating each creator’s sales or conversions to determine their tier.

  • For example, if you set the Lookback Window to January 1, 2025, our system will review each creator’s performance starting from that date. Based on how many conversions or sales they've generated since then, the creator will be automatically placed into the appropriate tier.

🔁 If you selected Monthly, Quarterly, or Yearly:

  • Creators will start in the base tier, and any sales or conversions made before automated tiers were enabled will retain their original commission rate.

  • Only future conversions—those that occur after automated tiers are enabled—will count toward tier progression, based on their performance within the selected timeframe.

Will past conversions be recalculated when a creator moves to a new tier?

No, tiered rates are not retroactive. Once a member reaches a new tier, the higher commission rate will only apply to future commissions.

What happens if automated tiers are turned off?

Turning off automated tiers removes all creators from the automated tier logic and reverts them to static payouts. You’ll be prompted to set a default payout, which will be applied to all creators previously in automated tiers.

  • Creators with manually assigned payouts will keep their assigned rates.

  • All other creators will be moved to the default payout you select.

  • Conversions tracked while automations are off will not count toward tier progress.

  • Your tier settings are saved and temporarily disabled, not deleted, so you can turn automations back on at any time.

What happens when automated tiers are turned back on?

Turning automation back on acts as a reset, not a resume. A new automation start date is set.

  • Creators on the default payout are automatically placed into the appropriate tier based on performance since the new start date.

  • Creators with manually assigned payouts will stay on their current rates unless you update them manually.

  • Tier logic resumes, using conversion data from the new start date forward.

Can I assign static payouts to certain creators within an offer, so they aren’t automatically moved between tiers?

Yes, you can. When adding the creator to the offer, choose a static payout rather than selecting automated tiers. This ensures their payout remains fixed.

Can we set up tiers to offer no payout for 0–10 conversions?

Yes. To withhold payouts for the first 10 conversions, set up your tiers as follows:

  • Tier 1: 0–9 conversions → 0% payout

  • Tier 2: 10+ conversions → Desired payout (e.g., 10%)

This setup ensures that creators only begin earning commissions once they reach 10 conversions.

What happens if we reject a conversion?

When a conversion is rejected, the creator’s total sales and conversion count will be updated accordingly. This may impact their progress toward future tiers. However, past conversions and any payouts that have already been processed will remain unchanged.

What happens if a rejected conversion is later approved?

If a previously rejected conversion is later approved, it will be treated as a new conversion. If this approval qualifies the creator for a higher tier, only future conversions will reflect the updated payout rate. Past conversions will not be retroactively adjusted.

How do Automated Tiers work if a creator belongs to multiple offers?

Automated Tiers are configured at the offer level, meaning each offer will have its own tier structure and rules. If a creator is part of multiple offers, their performance in each offer is evaluated independently. Only the stats (e.g., conversions, sales) from a specific offer will contribute to that offer’s tier progress. Progress made in one offer does not carry over to another.
